The 2006 annual spring meeting of the New England Chapter of the American Society of Indexers was held on Saturday, April 29, at the Chelmsford Public Library in Chelmsford, MA. More than thirty people representing several New England states and New York enjoyed two presentations, lunch, and moderated discussion roundtables. All freelance indexers should have their own web sites. Whether you have yet to start a web site or already have one and want to improve it, this presentation provided many useful tips and actual web site examples.

Show Me the Money: The Business Side of Indexing
Presented by Seth Maislin of Focus Information Services
Statistics and solutions for making a living as an indexer, including topics such as salaries, business structure, overhead, insurance, tax deductions, subcontracting, cash flow, billing, raising rates, late and rush fees, printing costs, and much more.

Roundtable Discussions: Running an Indexing Business
We broke up into groups with moderated discussions on topics related to the business side of indexing: accounting, scheduling, setting rates; contracts and agreements, marketing periodical and online indexing, contracts and agreements, and general marketing.
