Fall 2006 Conference Presentation
American Society of Indexers National News
Presented by Seth Maislin
President, American Societion of IndexersSeth Maislin enthusiastically discussed new ASI initiatives and encouraged all members to consider volunteering at the chapter level. He shared highlights of his own involvement in ASI, from his beginning role as Chair of Continuing Studies in our chapter through his recent election to ASI President. He also reminded us that the 2007 national conference will be held in May in Philadelphia, which is really not so far away, in time or distance.
According to Seth, the ASI board is fully committed to strategic planning. In fact, a strategic plan has been developed and will be available soon on the ASI website at www.asindexing.org. The plan’s objective is to ensure that our organization will succeed and thrive in the coming years. This is an exciting time for ASI, with new programs and approaches set to be implemented. Some of the areas that the plan focuses on are: improving the value of ASI for members, developing better communication, preparing educational programs, including white papers and courses, and ensuring the financial security of the organization. More details are available in the August 2006 issue of the President’s Letter (on ASI’s website).
