NEASItalk
NEASItalk enables  the chapter's many active members to communicate with each other. People can arrange for carpooling to NEASI events, discuss volunteer activities, and generally stay in touch with fellow indexers here in the Northeast. To subscribe visit Yahoo Group NEASItalk and register. 

INDEX-L 
INDEX-L is a listerv that was created to promote good indexing practice by providing a forum for aspiring and professional indexers to share information and ideas relating to all aspects of index preparation and indexing as a business. Participants include but are not limited to members of professional indexers organizations (ASI, NFIAS), librarians, library school faculty, and editors. 

To subscribe to INDEX-L, send a note to listserv@bingvmb.cc.binghamton.edu with the body of the message consisting of 

                          SUBSCRIBE INDEX-Lfirstname lastname
                          (with your own first and last names). 

No other information should be added to the body of the message. As with other messages to listserv programs, disable the automatic signature option of your email program on this message. You will receive confirmation of your subscription shortly thereafter. 

To unsubscribe, send a message to the same place, with SIGNOFF INDEX-L in the message body. Do not include your name in this message. To get a list of other commands that can be used with this listserv, write to the same address and put INFO REFCARD in the body of your message. 

INDEX-L Archives --There are two ways to look at the archives:                              

1.Subscribers can request archives of recent messages (within the past couple of months) directly from the listserv. First, send the following message to the listserv: 

                                 INDEX INDEX-L

You will receive a list of available archive files. Each file contains one week's messages. Choose the file you want, and note the name under the column heading "filetype." Send the following message to the listserv: 

                                 GET INDEX-L filetype

You will receive the archive file as an email message. 

2.Anyone can search the INDEX-L archives through a web interface at a site maintained by Ilana Kingsley. The link is below:

Web Indexing is associated with the Web Indexing SIG of the American Society for Indexing, although membership in the Web Indexing SIG is not a requirement for joining this group.For more information, and to subscribe, go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/web-indexing.

COPYEDITING-L
Copyediting-L is a list for copy editors and other defenders of the English language
who want to discuss anything related to editing: sticky style issues; newspaper, technical, and other specialized editing; reference books; client relations; Internet
resources; electronic editing and software; freelance issues; and so on. Copyediting-L
 is an unmoderated list that is open only to subscribers. It is not available as a newsgroup. 

To subscribe to COPYEDITING-L, send a message to listserv@listserv.indiana.edu with this command on the first line of the body of the message:

TECHWR-L 
Techwr-l is for technical communications and related issues. Anything related to any facet of technical communication (practice, research, teaching) is appropriate for this list. Sample topics include: How do you handle uncooperative engineers or programmers? What do others do about making technical writing a priority in their companies? I am researching user documentation and would like to contact anyone who has written aftermarket docs?

Online Services America Online (AOL) (800) 227-6364 
AOL has a discussion area for indexers in the Writer's Club (Go To writers, choose Message Boards, then select Editing/Indexing/Translating). Folders include Indexing, Indexing with Cindex, Indexing with Macrex, American Society for Indexing, and others.
